Tania
Listen to Tania's story
Tania’s childhood began in a small village in Bangladesh, surrounded by love. Raised by her grandparents from birth, she remembers ponds filled with fish, racing boys on bicycles, playing Kabaddi, and being fiercely adored. Her great-grandfather would only eat from her hand and grandfather carried a little box in his pocket to bring her treats home whenever he was out. She was, in her own words, “spoiled with love.”
At eleven, everything changed.
Brought to England with her grandparents, Tania believed she was visiting family. Instead, she was left behind whilst they returned home. What followed was years of navigating adolescence without guidance, and carrying the quiet pain of being isolated.
Yet even in those years, something extraordinary runs through her story.
Whenever doors closed, someone unexpected stepped in.
A Design Technology teacher who gave her extra lessons at lunchtime and told her she had a bright future.
A solicitor who remembered carrying her as a child - and recognised her ten years later, calling her by name.
An MP, Adrian Flook, who used his own legal team to fight for her visa, writing to reassure her: “Don’t worry. I’ve got this.”
An aunt who gave her a home and a defiant love when all felt lost.
Time and again, strangers and sometimes the least expected people became what Tania gently calls angels.
“It’s always been outsiders who came into my life and made massive changes.”

At twenty, after years of uncertainty, she secured indefinite leave to remain - on her birthday. A new chapter began, one she fought for entirely on her own.
Even then, there were pressures: to repay loyalty with sacrifice and to accept choices that weren’t hers. Tania chose differently. She chose her own path, even when it meant standing alone.
Today, she is a mother of three, fiercely devoted, present in every way she once needed herself. She sits at the table with her children to do homework. She pushes them academically. She makes sure they feel loved, seen, and secure.
“I wish I had that,” she says. “I think I would have done something even greater.”
And yet - she already has.
Despite being told she wasn’t bright, Tania completed not one but two degrees: Computer Science and Nursing. Studying late into the night while raising her children; she built independence through relentless work. Always determined to stand on her own feet.
There is a quiet resilience about Tania. She does not speak with bitterness. She has forgiven, even when she remembers. She acknowledges the hardship but also recognises that it shaped her strength.
“I’m thankful in a way,” she reflects. “Because my experiences made me stronger.”
Her story is not simply about survival. It is about humanity. About the unexpected kindness of teachers, officials, neighbours, and relatives who chose compassion. About the way small acts - a letter, a lift, a word of belief can alter a life.
Today, Tania is the angel in someone else’s story. She volunteers at the Baby Bank. She supports other families. She gives the love she once searched for.
Her life holds both truths: the hardship and the kindness. The pain and the protection.
And through it all, she stands steady, smiling, quietly strong.
